STR Aligned: Phonics Basic Training for Elementary K-5

Reading comprehension is the bi-product of decoding and language comprehension. If students cannot access the print from the page through the act of decoding, they will have limited to no comprehension of the text. This workshop will focus on providing participants with the background of phonics instruction, beginning with the alphabetic principle and extending along the continuum through advanced phonics, including morphology. The capacity of a teacher to not only possess the knowledge, but also the application of foundational skill instruction is critical in supporting students in their literacy journey of learning how to read AND making meaning from what they read.
