***Session Open ONLY to SBCISD Staff.*** This training session is designed to equip educators and support staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support students with dyslexia and dysgraphia through the effective use of assistive technology. Participants will explore a range of tools and strategies that can enhance reading, writing, and overall learning experiences for students with these learning differences. By the end of the training, attendees will be equipped to refine their approaches, overcome common challenges, and enhance their students' learning experiences.

TSVIs and COMS will review upcoming training and events for the 2024-2025 school year. Updates from TEA, TSBVI, TxSSN, and other entities will be reviewed and shared. Updates for binders will be added. Active Learning / AT trainings will be reviewed and dates shared. Stephanie Walker from the American Printing House for the Blind will provide a training that will help our Teachers for Students with Visual Impairments (TSVIs) and Orientation & Mobility Specialists (COMS) learn more about the items available from the American Printing House for the Blind and how to utilize them through Escape Room Activities: Sherlock's Escape Room Description: Dive into the mysterious world of Sherlock Holmes with this engaging workshop designed for professionals who serve students with visual impairments. Participants will navigate "Sherlock's Escape Room: Get a Clue," using APH science products to uncover hidden clues and solve puzzles, enhancing deductive reasoning and critical thinking. This session highlights how hands-on activities and problem-solving in a simulated escape room can support the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with visual impairments. Objectives: 1. Discover innovative ways to incorporate APH products into the Expanded Core Curriculum, enhancing the educational experiences of students with visual impairments. 2. Identify and discuss the application of UDL principles in classroom activities to enhance accessibility and engagement for all students, particularly those with visual impairments. 3. Develop strategies to guide students using logical reasoning and deduction to solve complex problems, fostering higher-order thinking skills. The participants will learn how to utilize APH Science and STEM materials that are available through Quota Funds for their districts. Participants will experience how these Science and STEM products can be integrated into the general education classroom.

Active Learning can be used with many individuals, but it is especially beneficial for learners who are: blind and visually impaired, Deaf-Blind, individuals who function at the 0-48 month level developmentally - no matter what their chronological age - and for individuals who experience global delays in physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Active Learning was developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen of Denmark. Come join us as we review the principles, implementation, evaluation, and create hands on activities to apply Active Learning with students. Follow up support will be available as needed.

This event is for students who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind and their parents or guardians. Students and their families will have an opportunity to listen to presentations from various organizations as well as participate in activities to help them prepare for life after high school. They will also have an opportunity to listen to former students who are visually impaired talk about their experiences in the real world. Vendors related to visual impairments, college and vocational institutions, and other organizations will also be available to share resources that will help our students make a successful transition to their world after High School.

Students with Visual Impairments will have an opportunity to greet and gather with other students from around Region One during this Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Event. Students will practice learning and communicating with each other with guidance from TSVIs and O&M Specialists from around the Region. The following ECC Skills will be addressed during this event: Compensatory; Sensory Efficiency; Assistive Technology; Orientation & Mobility; Social Interaction; Self-Determination; Independent Living; Recreation & Leisure; and Career Education. Our Theme will be "Christmas Candy Land - The Ultimate Sensory Experience". Students will participate in various group activities to work on their ECC Skills. They will then have an opportunity to socialize during a luncheon, afterwards, all students will be invited to dance with the group. This event is a "Dress to Impress" ECC Event.
