Special Education Liaison will assist LEA leadership teams in evaluating SPED programs and performance. The purpose is to assist LEAs in building capacity in offering targeted support and assistance to your LEA. Technical Assistance includes LEA data, root cause analysis, review of statute to aid the leadership team in evaluating the overall performance of the Special Education program using a continuous improvement lens. ESC 2 assists the leadership team in taking a proactive approach by addressing SPED requirements and improving student performance. Based on results, the leadership team will be able to report, identify, and prioritize areas of strengths and improvement opportunities.

Course Summary: This course focuses on equipping educators and school leaders with the skills needed to analyze and interpret data from the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR). Participants will learn how to identify key areas of concern related to student performance and achievement by examining campus-level data. Through this process, they will develop a deeper understanding of how data-driven decision-making supports academic growth. The course will also emphasize the critical role of using this data to create a well-developed, targeted Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) that addresses identified needs, sets measurable goals, and outlines actionable strategies for continuous school improvement.

This course will provide an overview of The Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) which is a performance-based exam required for principal certification in Texas. The PASL is designed to evaluate a candidate’s ability to apply real-world leadership skills in a school setting. Aspiring principals will receive an overview and preparation guidance on the required PASL tasks which focused on identifying school challenges, supporting professional development, and fostering a collaborative school culture. These tasks require written reflections, supporting evidence, and, in some cases, video submissions.
