Grounded in the work of Pam Harris (keynote speaker from Making Math Memorable), this session shows how developing mathematical reasoning doesn’t require a total instructional overhaul—just the right small shifts. Teachers will explore simple, high-impact shifts that help students make sense of math, see relationships, and rely less on memorized steps. Walk away with practical, classroom-ready moves you can use immediately to spark deeper thinking and stronger understanding. ***This session builds the instructional foundation for routines that deepen numeracy and naturally lead into Math That Makes Sense: Using Problem Strings to Build Powerful Numeracy (Grades 6–12), where these ideas come to life through a concrete, classroom-ready routine.***

Algebra is the language of mathematics. Like any language, it must be understood before it can be spoken fluently. In this session, participants will explore how students learn to decode mathematical meaning from symbols and encode their thinking into expressions and equations. Using TEKS Resource System tools, teachers will examine how conceptual understanding of equality, operations, and structure develops into symbolic fluency.

This is Day 1 of a three day series for educators. In Day 1 of Plan Well, Teach Well, Score Well, we will set the foundation for strong instructional planning that drives measurable growth and improved T-TESS outcomes. In this session, participants will explore how solid, standards-aligned planning leads to effective teaching and higher student achievement . Educators will learn to break down TEKS into clear, learning objectives using tools within the TCMPC platform. Together, we will define success criteria, analyze proficient descriptors, and practice identifying and correcting non-examples through video and real-life classroom scenarios. Participants will also engage with powerful digital tools that support planning and reflection such as, MagicSchool to unpack standards, connect relevance, and generate aligned lesson ideas. Sibme Feedback and Notebook LM will guide teachers in capturing reflections and receiving actionable feedback to strengthen instructional practice

Come explore how to unlock the power of data in your elementary classroom with this dynamic, hands-on workshop that bridges math and science! Participants will dive into the TEKS for data analysis, exploring how to guide students in collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting data using various graphs. Through collaborative activities, teachers will experience model lessons, engage in science experiments that generate real-world data, and develop mini-lessons that integrate both subjects. Educators will leave with practical strategies to empower students to be data detectives, solve problems, and identify patterns across the curriculum. This workshop is ideal for K-5 educators looking to enhance their math and science teaching through meaningful cross-curricular connections.
