In special education classrooms, every gesture, response, and effort holds meaning. This interactive session is designed for educators working with students with complex access needs who communicate in nontraditional or individualized ways. Participants will explore how to meaningfully assess student progress using the Grading Rubric for Students with Complex Access Needs in combination with the Personal Communication Dictionary (PCD). Through hands-on activities, teachers will learn how to identify and interpret unique forms of student communication and integrate these observations into grading practices that reflect genuine growth. Educators will engage with sample scenarios and collaboratively score a student profile using the rubric and corresponding communication cues outlined in a PCD. The session will also guide participants in developing communication profiles for their own students and using rubric-based evidence to inform instruction, support IEP goals, and facilitate communication with families. Join us as we move beyond traditional grading—toward practices that value every student’s voice, recognize effort in all forms, and promote access to assessments for our most complex learners. #ATESC1 #AUESC1 #ECSEESC1 #LIDESC1 *** VIRTUAL ONLY *** Participants can join the Zoom session by following these steps: 1. Join us for an in-depth professional development session designed to deepen educators’ understanding of the legal foundations and instructional practices essential to developing effective, standards-based IEPs for students with dyslexia. Participants will: • Recognize key federal and state laws, regulations, and guidance that direct IEP development and support students with dyslexia. • Identify the critical role of the enrolled grade-level general education curriculum in shaping the SB IEP process. • Develop comprehensive present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) statements using multiple data sources, including baseline data for identified areas of need and the impact of dyslexia on a student’s access to and progress in the general curriculum. • Write measurable annual goals aligned with the PLAAFP and inform the specially designed instruction (SDI) required to support student success. • Design effective data collection methods to monitor progress on annual goals and establish systems for reporting progress to families. By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to create compliant, data-driven, and instructionally meaningful IEPs that support the unique needs of students with dyslexia. #DYSESC1

#DYSESC1

This is a webinar session: Behavior—it’s everywhere, and as SLPs, we see it impact communication daily. But let’s be real… navigating behavior can sometimes feel like decoding a secret language. In this interactive, 3-hour virtual session, an SLP and a BCBA team up to break down the essentials of behavior science in a way that makes sense for speech therapy. We’ll tackle common behavior myths, decode tricky situations, and give you practical strategies to manage challenging behaviors while keeping communication at the heart of it all. Expect real talk, real strategies, and maybe even a few “aha!” moments along the way. Let’s bridge the gap and make behavior work for us, not against us!
