Aspiring administrators often wonder what it takes to transition from supporting instruction to leading a campus. This collaborative panel brings together experienced instructional coaches and assistant principals to explore the essential components of effective leadership. Participants will gain insight into the overlapping skills of both roles—such as building trust, fostering teacher growth, managing systems, and cultivating a positive school culture—while also examining the unique challenges and responsibilities each position carries. Through real-world experiences and interactive discussion, panelists will share strategies for balancing instructional leadership with operational management, leading with empathy and accountability, and preparing for the next step in administration. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how these two roles work in tandem to support student outcomes and staff development, and how the lessons learned can shape their own leadership journey.

Extended Constructed Responses (ECR) have taken center stage in the minds of RLA teachers and leaders across the state of Texas. Educators need time to analyze and understand ECR expectations and translate them into instructional practices. This session will provide teachers with the latest information regarding ECR and a lesson cycle model using best instructional practices to teach students to be successful in their constructed responses. Each stage of the creation of an Extended Constructed Response will be modeled with lesson activities and exemplars. Educators will leave this session with skills and tools to immediately take back to teach Extended Constructed Responses in their classrooms. Experience a modeling session with successful strategies used in the classroom from Region 7 teacher Stacy Shellhorse. Join us as we look at constructed responses and how we can connect thinking to writing responses. This is DAY 2 of a 2-day session on writing SCRs and ECRs.

Universal Intervention (Tier 1) takes place in the general education classroom, providing all students with the support they need to engage with grade-level content. Core instructional strategies, such as explicit instruction, scaffolding, and differentiation, address the academic needs of approximately 80% of the student population. For those requiring additional support beyond the standard instruction, a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework is used to identify, design, and implement targeted interventions aimed at closing skill gaps. Join us as we dive into the purpose and power of MTSS using TIER (Tiered Interventions Using Evidence-Based Research) materials and resources. We will focus on how it drives academic success for every student.

The Region 7 Spanish Spelling Bee is a competition where students in grades 4-8, spell challenging Spanish words in a bee-style format, testing their knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and orthography. Each district may bring its top 3 Spanish spellers and at least one (or more) district or campus staff chaperones. All students will compete in the same group (grades 4 through 8) with words from the same spelling list. The competition is entirely in Spanish, requiring students to spell words with correct accents and diacritical marks. The top 5 spellers will have the opportunity to advance to the state Spanish Spelling Bee, which will take place in El Paso, Texas, in June 2026.

What does it take to grow as a leader and prepare for the next step in administration? This collaborative panel brings together an elementary principal and a middle school principal to share their leadership journeys through the lens of the Effective Schools Framework (ESF), Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS), and Texas Principal Standards. Participants will gain practical insight into how principals apply the ESF levers to strengthen instruction, build a culture of high expectations, and create systems that sustain student success. Panelists will also reflect on how T-PESS and the Principal Standards guide their professional growth, decision-making, and impact on teaching and learning. Through open discussion and real-world examples, aspiring administrators will explore the common challenges and opportunities across grade levels, identify transferable leadership practices, and learn how to leverage these tools to shape their own leadership pathway.

Let us support you with your renewal application. TIA offers five-year system approvals for local designation systems. Districts must submit a renewal application during year five. This will ensure continuity with the data submission and allow districts to continually designate teachers. This workshop will support the renewal process. We will support you with (1) meeting current statutory requirements, (2) holistically reviewing the existing system to identify strengths and areas for continuous improvement, and (3) expanding or modifying your local designation system to include additional eligible teaching assignments. Districts that do not submit a renewal application on their required renewal timeline will have an expired TIA system and will no longer be able to designate teachers.
