One effective way to differentiate learning is to balance large group instruction with the use of small, flexible groups. Through small groups, teachers can accommodate all learners by varying the size, materials, tasks, purposes, and support level for each group. In small groups, everyone is engaged, and everyone has a voice. Students can sometimes learn more from each other than they can from the teacher. Strategies will be shared to use during small group lessons. This workshop will be conducted at Carthage High School, but it is open to all Region 7 Academic Content Coop districts.

When the current inclusive provisions and supports are not meeting the needs of a student (whether academic, behavioral, or social/emotional), that student may require other levels of support. Typically, about 20% of students require targeted intervention (Tier 2). Intensive intervention (Tier 3) is designed for students who demonstrate an inadequate response to universal and targeted intervention, typically about 5% or less. Schools have different ways of conceptualizing and implementing intensive interventions. We will present evidence-based strategies that are typically used at each level of intensity, highlight how to track the progress of student goals and identify what data must be reviewed to determine Tier movement. TEA's intentions of implementation will be discussed and reviewed. Attendees will be able to participate in this webinar in their district via the Zoom link provided in the registration confirmation email.

This leader cohort will focus on systems and processes for effective teacher internalization of high-quality instructional materials that lead to high-quality, impactful instruction grounded in research-based instructional strategies. The purpose of the TIL Materials Internalization and Alignment training is to build the capacity of school leaders to invest and coach teachers in the effective internalization of HQIM units and lessons. Across three days of leader training, leaders will learn what the research says about the importance of using HQIM and establishing strong internalization practices, how to effectively internalize units and lessons in ELAR, Math, and Foundational Reading Skills, as well as how to create the conditions for success with strong implementation and support of teachers. In this training, leaders will dig into the positive impact high-quality instructional materials have on students, teachers, and school systems when paired with professional development for teachers in how to use their curriculum products. They will then learn about and practice using internalization protocols for units and lessons using sample curriculum products for K-5 math, ELAR, and foundational reading skills. Finally, leaders will learn the characteristics of an effective professional learning community, and leverage coaching guides to plan for and establish the systems that will support ongoing teacher professional development focused on the successful implementation of high-quality instructional materials. They will get the chance to practice planning development at the weekly and monthly levels to ensure teachers have the time and space to plan for instruction. All Texas Instructional Leadership Cohorts at Region 7 require the following: 1. A Team of 3 Engagement (DCSI/Principal Supervisor, Campus Principal, and other campus leader of choice) 2. A Customized Service Agreement with Region 7 defining the scope of work and fees for the year(s) of engagement. **(Participants are registered for the session once the District has signed and returned their Customized Service Agreement)

Supports in an MTSS framework flow from universal, to targeted, to intensive. The tiers are distinct but, as part of a system, share common components. Under the umbrella of MTSS, students at risk are provided with intervention time above the regular core classroom instruction. Students who demonstrate a continued inadequate response to universal instruction and intervention are moved into different levels of support based on data gathered through progress monitoring. This workshop will address the evidenced-based practices in reading at each level of a three-tiered framework. Practical strategies and resources will be provided for each level to create better intervention lessons. Texas implementation guidelines and evidence-based research that support student growth will be reviewed. A backward design process focusing on the Performance Assessments in TEKS Resource System will guide and direct classroom instruction. Providing exemplars has been shown to assist students understanding of content knowledge and social studies skills. Exemplars make it easy to articulate established criteria and standards for each performance assessment, but it takes time to create the exemplars. This PD is for TEKS RS users at every grade level. Bring your whole team and work together to create exemplars you will use in your classroom. The PD is hands-on and teacher-centered. You will leave with your teacher-created exemplars to use in your classroom.

Texas has continued developing guidance with implementing the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS). MTSS, if done with fidelity and evidence-based interventions, can provide useful data about the level of support a student needs. This workshop will target three specific modules developed by the state network TIER: a) the Universal Screener, (b) Progress Monitoring, and (c) Data-Driven Decision Making. These critical components of a three-tiered framework provided the evidence needed to determine if the student is responding positively and closing the gap between their performance and their same-aged peers. We will also review Senate Bill 1153 and how we document what interventions and supports students receive to determine if they are responding academically and behaviorally. Attendees will be able to participate in this webinar in their district via the Zoom link provided in the registration confirmation email.

Texas has continued developing guidance with the implementation of the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS). MTSS, if done with fidelity and evidence-based interventions, can provide valuable data about the level of support a student needs. This workshop will target three specific modules developed by the state network T.I.E.R.: a) the Universal Screener, (b) Progress Monitoring, and (c) Data-Driven Decision Making. These critical components of a three-tiered framework provided the evidence needed to determine if the student is responding positively and closing the gap between their performance and their same-aged peers. We will also review Senate Bill 1153 and how we document what interventions and supports students are receiving to determine if they are responding both academically and behaviorally.

By law, Texas Middle School Fluency Assessment (TMSFA) must be given to all 7th-grade students who failed the previous year's state test before the end of the 1st six weeks of school. All available data, including the Spring assessment, should be used to determine at-risk students. We must determine deficits in student reading using an approved reading assessment instrument. From the results of this assessment, a plan must be made for reading intervention to help each student read on grade level. This initial session will train teachers to give the TMSFA and discuss the meaning or interpretation of those scores.

A relationship with one caring adult has the power to impact student welfare and success. Bus drivers, teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, principals, interventionists, and other school staff have a direct and daily influence on positive student outcomes. 'Capturing Kids' Hearts' shows them how to create high-achieving centers of learning by strengthening students' connectedness to others through enhancing healthy bonds with staff and establishing collaborative agreements of acceptable behavior. Participants will learn how to build meaningful, productive relationships with every student and every colleague; how to develop team-building skills and social contracts with students, and how to create a safe, effective environment for learning. ***This is a 2-day training*** Participants are required to attend both days to get credit.

By law, an approved fluency assessment from the Commissioner's approved list, such as Texas Middle School Fluency Assessment (TMSFA), must be given to all 7th-grade students who failed the previous year's state test before the end of the 1st six weeks of school. All available data, including the Spring assessment, should be used to determine at-risk students. We must determine deficits in student reading using an approved reading assessment instrument. From the results of this assessment, a plan must be made for reading intervention to help each student read on grade level. This session will focus on planning the intervention using your test results. Bring those results with you, and work with our team of specialists to create a plan of action.

It has been two years since ECR was added to the STAAR assessment. In that time we have all learned, grown, and risked much to meet this challenge. Now that we have a system down and a better understanding of this task, it is time to focus on refining the ECR so that it is not formulaic, but rather leverages the skills of good authors so that we can grow great writers in our clasrroms. This session will focus on any relevant updates regarding ECR, the use of the author's craft within writing, and how to guide authentic revision and editing in drafts. Universal Intervention (Tier 1) occurs in the general education classroom and is designed to support all students in their ability to access good instruction at grade level. Interventions and supports received during the core instructional minutes (universal time for all) meet the needs of about 80% of a school's population for academics and behavior. For students needing additional intervention and support above the regular core instructional minutes, a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework is implemented to problem-solve, design, and implement individualized learning plans to close identified skill gaps. Join us as we explore the why of MTSS. Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) fall under the MTSS umbrella and TEA's expectation of the framework. This introductory level will dive deep into processes of the systematic framework of academic and behavioral interventions necessary for student progress. Attendees will be able to participate in this webinar in their district via the Zoom link provided in the registration confirmation email.

In the realm of secondary mathematics education, the value of hands-on learning experiences remains paramount. By engaging students in tactile exploration and manipulation of mathematical concepts through the use of manipulatives, we can facilitate deeper comprehension and mastery. The journey from concrete to abstract understanding, following the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) approach, stands as a cornerstone of effective pedagogy. This brain-based strategy not only cultivates a deeper understanding of mathematical principles but also nurtures critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. By embracing the Concrete-Representational-Abstract approach, we empower secondary math students to ascend to higher levels of proficiency and conceptual mastery. Let us get together and discuss and build our commitment to guiding them along this transformative educational journey.
